Silver Linings Playbook, the latest from David O. Russell (Flirting with Disaster, The Fighter) has taken the coveted People's Choice Award at the Toronto Film Festival. It's coveted because you may have heard of a few of the past winners - The King's Speech, Slumdog Millionaire - The Artist was runner-up last year. Even foreign film sensations Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Amelie received major boosts by picking up this prize.

Featuring a killer cast, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert DeNiro, and Chris Tucker, the rom com has been favorably compared to Russell's breakthrough film - Flirting with Disaster - which is good news for me, as that's one of my favorite comedies of the past twenty years.

Does this put the film on the Oscar map? We'll see. It definitely guarantees a Golden Globe nomination for Best Comedy, but that was likely already in the stars.
