Toronto has released its initial slate of films (links to a .pdf) and it's an impressive list. Along with the normal slate of things us poor people couldn't see at Cannes, there are some heft world premieres. Including Joe Wright's adaptation of Anna Karenina, which I wasn't terribly excited about until he said his biggest inspiration in making the adaptation was Lars von Trier's Dogville. It could be a disaster, but it should be at least be an interesting experiment in formalism.
The sci-fi geek in me is about to explode over Cloud Atlas - a pairing of the Wachowski siblings (one is a sister now, in case you didn't know - but you did) and Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run).
And, of course, every cinephile has to be excited about the latest Malick. But, I'll admit that there is a part of me that thinks, "Too soon." I've become so accustomed to waiting six to ten years that a year plus a couple of months just feels weird.
What are your thoughts? What are you excited to see?
